Hi Michael! This is such a cool feature! I know we’ve met before, but my name is Chelsea! I’m a recent graduate, a social worker, an activist, and an outdoor enthusiast. I’m from the mountains, and everything I do is for the mountains. Currently residing Sylva, NC!MJinWNC30/01/2017 at 3:04 pm #8385
Hey, Progressive Nation WNC people, I’m Mary and as of last March I’m retired and living in Haywood County. My first career was as a teacher of children and teens with “learning disabilities” and I worked in public schools in Alabama. I have strong opinions about DeVos:)
My longest career was as a college professor of English literature and writing. I’m also certified in intercultural communication and given training sessions. My last four years at work were at a state university in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. My students were all Muslims (nominally at least) and 98% from that country; the others were from Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Teaching them English writing meant I was privileged to read their essays and biographical narratives, so I got insights into their thoughts that just working inside the country in any other profession does not give.
I love the mountains of WNC and my husband and I chose this area for its natural beauty, recreation, health care, culture and arts–and growing population of progressive people. I’m thrilled to be a part of PRogressive Nation WNC and grateful to you who organized it for all the effective work you are doing and helping the rest of us to do.Beau31/01/2017 at 9:05 am #8387
Hi everyone! I’m Beau. My parents live in Haywood county and my voting residence is in Waynesville. I’ve been living in London, UK with my husband for the past 10 years and am now a dual citizen. I come back to WNC two or three times a year.
I’ve followed politics avidly since I left university, but only became seriously politically active in the run-up to the 2016 elections. I volunteered on November 7th and 8th at Joe Sam Queen’s office. More recently, I flew back to the states to attend the Women’s March on Washington and just last night joined a demonstration at Downing Street (the UK equivalent to the White House) to protest our Prime Minister’s complicity in the US administration’s refugee ban.
One of the factors preventing us from moving back to the US is how stridently conservative WNC can be. This group is a welcome find! I hope to be able to join you for a meeting the next time I’m in town.MJinWNC09/02/2017 at 1:55 pm #8501
Hi, Chelsea, Natasha, Amber,
After the relentless assault on our water, land, air, and native wildlife; Sessions’ and DeVos’s confirmations, and after reading about the appallingly inappropriate, deranged phone calls Trump made to President Hollande of France, the Australian PM, and others, and the Palmer Report article on the menacing tone of Trump’s emails related to his Muslim ban’s being reviewed by a federal Court of Appeals, I really want to push Congress to impeach Trump. I would appreciate hearing from legal experts among us how best to do that, and how all the groups pushing for impeachment can coordinate to make it happen. Whatever it takes that we can do without breaking a law.
